In 1868, a Boston watchmaker named Florentine Ariosto Jones sailed across the Atlantic to set up the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen. His goal was to combine the modern manufacturing technology of the Americans with the unrivalled expertise of Swiss craftsmen to produce the best pocket watch movements of his time. Today, IWC Schaffhausen remains true to the legacy of Jones. The company’s six watch families – the Pilot’s Watches, Portugieser, Portofino, Ingenieur, Aquatimer and Da Vinci – combine precision engineering with extraordinary and timeless design to bring unique emotions to their wearers’ wrists.

BIG PILOT’S WATCH PERPETUAL CALENDAR EDITION “ANTOINE DE SAINT EXUPÉRY”

BIG PILOT’S WATCH PERPETUAL CALENDAR EDITION “ANTOINE DE SAINT EXUPÉRY”

The Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Antoine de Saint Exupéry” with an 18-carat red gold case is a special edition with a unique design that commemorates the author and pilot with the letter “A” for Antoine on the dial, the tobacco-brown colour of the dial and the calfskin strap inspired by his flight suit. This timepiece features an annual calendar, which shows the month, date and day in three separate windows. The advance mechanism automatically takes the length of individual months into account and requires manual correction via the crown once a year at the end of February. The in-house 52850 calibre has two barrels to provide the higher torque required to drive the three display discs of the annual calendar. In addition, when fully wound, the twin barrels supply enough energy for a full 7 days’ power reserve. The sapphire-glass back provides a view of the exquisite movement, the rotor in the shape of a plane and the various decorations on the plates and bridges.

INGENIEUR PERPETUAL CALENDAR DIGITAL DATE-MONTH

INGENIEUR PERPETUAL CALENDAR DIGITAL DATE-MONTH

The Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is the flagship of the Ingenieur family. The design is inspired by the very first Ingenieur models and features a simple round case and polished bezel. The perpetual calendar with large digital date and month displays, which can be easily set using the crown, recognizes the different lengths of the months and takes into account the leap day every 4 years. The IWC-manufactured 89801-calibre movement also features a chronograph function. This timepiece has a 45-millimetre case made from 18-carat red gold, a silver-plated dial, black hands and a black alligator leather strap, and is limited to 100 watches.

DA VINCI PERPETUAL CALENDAR CHRONOGRAPH

DA VINCI PERPETUAL CALENDAR CHRONOGRAPH

With its articulated strap horns and the perpetual calendar, the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in 18-carat red gold represents the very best of over 30 years of the Da Vinci family. The moon remains still against the dark blue night sky while the moon-phase indicator disc beneath the dial acts as the earth’s shadow and imitates the waxing and waning of the moon. The perpetual calendar’s extreme precision is made possible by the in-house 89630 calibre. The moon phase display diverges by just 1 day in 577.5 years from the actual phase of the moon. The hour and minute counters are combined in a totalizer at “12 o’clock”, enabling stopped times to be read like a second time of day. Thanks to the flyback function, this watch allows ongoing chronograph time measurements to be instantly “deleted” and a new measurement started without an intermediate stop.

PORTOFINO HAND-WOUND MOON PHASE

PORTOFINO HAND-WOUND MOON PHASE

The Portofino Hand-Wound Moon Phase in stainless steel pays homage to the first Portofino from 1984, which also had a moon phase display. It is powered by the hand-wound 59800-calibre movement, which has a power reserve of 8 days when fully wound. The silver-plated dial with moon phase display, date, small seconds and power reserve display is simple and balanced. The see-through sapphire-glass back provides a view of the 8-day movement and the various decorations on the plates and bridges. The dark brown strap is made from alligator leather by the Italian company Santoni.
