INTERVIEW WITH  KHUN PLATU – DITAWAT ISSARA

ในแวดวงอสังหาริมทรัพย์ ชื่อชาญอิสสระเป็นที่รู้จักกันอย่างดี และเป็นแบบฉบับของการทำธุรกิจที่แข็งแกร่ง สามารถผ่านวิกฤติเศรษฐกิจในยุคต่างๆ จนก้าวสู่ความสำเร็จมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน ในวันนี้เราได้รับเกียรติจากคุณปลาทู ดิฐวัฒน์ อิสสระ ลูกชายคนที่สองของบ้านอิสสระ มาร่วมพูดคุยอย่างเป็นกันเองถึงบทบาทในการทำงานและไลฟ์สไตล์การใช้ชีวิตที่แฝงข้อคิดที่น่าสนใจ

The name ‘Charn Issara’ is one that is highly regarded in the real estate industry, known for its sound and stable business management and for having weathered every economic downturn to become what it is today. In this issue, we are honored to be speaking to Khun Platu – Ditawat Issara, the second son from the Issara house, to talk about his work and his lifestyle as well as his outlook on life.

เบื้องหลังบุคลิกและรอยยิ้มอันสดใสร่าเริงของคุณปลาทู คือ ความรักและความผูกพันต่อครอบครัวที่บ่มเพาะมาตั้งแต่เด็ก เขากล่าวว่า “ครอบครัวของผมมักสอนว่า เป็นครอบครัวเราต้องรักและดูแลกัน ครอบครัวของผมจึงเป็นเหมือนเพื่อนสนิทที่สำคัญที่สุดในชีวิต สไตล์การเลี้ยงดูของครอบครัวผม ไม่ใช่การส่งไปเรียนพิเศษหลังเลิกเรียน หรือไปติวเพิ่มเติมในวันหยุด จะเน้นออกไปเที่ยวต่างจังหวัดด้วยกัน ตั้งแต่บางเสร่ จนป๊าเริ่มทำโครงการที่ชะอำ ก็ไปชะอำด้วยกันทุกอาทิตย์ ตั้งแต่ยังเด็ก ผมมีโอกาสได้ใช้เวลาร่วมกันกับครอบครัวอยู่เสมอ ถึงแม้ว่าบางช่วงของชีวิตจะอยู่ห่างไกลกัน แต่เราก็ยังสามารถหาเวลามาเจอกันได้บ่อยๆ”

Behind his sunny disposition and positive attitude is a deep love and strong ties to his family forged since an early age. On this he said, “My family taught me that family must always love and look after each other, so they’ve always been like best friends to me. We were never sent to extra tutorials after school or to have weekend schools; instead we would get out of the city, going wherever my dad was working on a development. When it was in Bang Saray, we would go there every weekend, then Cha Am. So we would spend a lot of time together. Even though there were periods when we were apart like when I was studying abroad, we would find the time to be together whenever we can.”

คุณปลาทูได้มีโอกาสไปศึกษาต่อที่ประเทศอังกฤษตั้งแต่อายุ 9 ขวบ ประสบการณ์ในรั้วโรงเรียนประจำเป็นช่วงเวลาที่เขาชื่นชอบและประทับใจมาก โดยเฉพาะการได้ใช้ชีวิตอิสระและไม่จำเจ ได้ร่วมทำกิจกรรมต่างๆกับเพื่อนรุ่นเดียวกัน และถึงแม้จะต้องอยู่ห่างไกลครอบครัว แต่ก็ยังได้ใช้เวลาด้วยกันบ่อยครั้ง เนื่องจากในทุกช่วงปิดเทอม ครอบครัวของคุณปลาทูมักเดินทางมาเยี่ยมอยู่เสมอ และยังได้พากันไปเที่ยวทั้งในประเทศอังกฤษและประเทศใกล้เคียงอื่นๆ ในยุโรปหลายประเทศ เมื่อสำเร็จการศึกษาจากโรงเรียนประจำ   คุณปลาทูตัดสินใจย้ายเข้ามายังกรุงลอนดอน ช่วงชีวิตในมหาวิทยาลัยของคุณปลาทูก็ล้วนเต็มไปด้วยประสบการณ์มากมาย เขาได้มีโอกาสเรียนรู้ในหลากหลายด้าน ทั้งด้านศิลปะที่ Wimbledon College of Arts ด้านวิศวกรรมเครื่องกลที่ Imperial College London และสำเร็จการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีในสาขาการออกแบบผลิตภัณฑ์ (Production Design) จาก Central Saint Martins

Khun Platu went to study in England since he was nine years old, and the time spent at boarding school was some of the best in his life. Free from rote routines and exposed to a whole host of new activities with friends, he thrived. He was still able to meet with family come break time, when they would travel in the United Kingdom or to other countries in Europe. After his boarding school experience, Khun Platu decided to pursue his higher education in London where he would further develop his wide-ranging interests at Wimbledon College of Arts, mechanical engineering at Imperial College London, then attaining his undergraduate degree in Product Design from Central Saint Martins.

ปัจจุบัน คุณปลาทูทำงานที่สำนักงานใหญ่ของกลุ่มบริษัท ชาญอิสสระ ดีเวล็อปเมนท์ จำกัด (มหาชน) ในกรุงเทพฯ โดยดำรงตำแหน่ง ผู้ช่วยกรรมการผู้จัดการ สายงานพัฒนาธุรกิจ หน้าที่มี 2 ส่วนคือ การดูแลด้านการบริหารพัฒนาที่อยู่อาศัยและคอนโดมิเนียม (Residence and condominium development) และส่วนที่สองคือ ด้านโรงแรมและการบริการ (hospitality) ซึ่งคุณปลาทูเข้ามามีบทบาทช่วยพี่ชาย คุณปลาวาฬ -วรสิทธิ อิสสระ ในการตรวจสอบความเรียบร้อยในทุกรายละเอียดของโรงแรมในเครือ

Currently Khun Platu is working at the head office of Charn Issara Development Public Company Limited in Bangkok as Executive vice president in Business Development. His main responsibilities are development of residence and condominium projects and the hospitality business, where Khun Platu is helping his older brother Khun Plawan Vorasit Issara to look after all aspects of the group’s hospitality businesses.

นอกจากนี้คุณปลาทูยังดำรงตำแหน่ง กรรมการผู้จัดการ บริษัท ร่วมอิสสระ จำกัด ซึ่งเป็นการร่วมทุนระหว่างบริษัท ชาญอิสสระ ดีเวล็อปเมนท์ จำกัด (มหาชน) บริษัท ไอ.ซี.ซี. อินเตอร์เนชั่นแนล จำกัด (มหาชน) และบริษัท สหพัฒนพิบูล จำกัด (มหาชน)   พัฒนาโครงการทิวทะเลเอสเตท (Thew Talay Estate) ที่ดูแลอยู่ ซึ่งได้พัฒนาที่ดินแปลงใหญ่เนื้อที่กว่า 110 ไร่ บริเวณริมชายหาดชะอำ-หัวหิน ให้กลายเป็นศูนย์กลางแห่งการพักผ่อนหย่อนใจริมชายทะเล ด้วยคอนโดมิเนียมคุณภาพ  โรงแรมและเรสซิเดนซ์อย่าง Baba Beach Club Hotel & Residences Hua Hin   Prestigious residential pool villa managed by Sri panwa โรงแรมสไตล์บีชคลับระดับลักซ์ชัวรี่ และพูลวิลล่าสุดหรู ที่บริหารงานโดยทีมงานจากโรงแรมศรีพันวา ภูเก็ต และ บ้านโชค  “BAAN CHOK  HISTORIC HOME : A BEACHFRONT EATERY & INITIMATE EVENT SPACE  ซึ่งเป็นบ้านพักตากอากาศเก่าแก่ของตระกูลโชควัฒนา ในสไตล์หัวหินโคโลเนียล ซึ่งได้มีการปรับรีโนเวทให้กลายเป็นทั้งสถานที่ตากอากาศ ร้านอาหาร คาเฟ่ ห้องประชุม สถานที่จัดเลี้ยง งานแต่ง และพื้นที่จัดกิจกรรมดีๆ ริมทะเลสวยๆ อีกด้วย

Khun Platu is also the Managing Director of Issara United Company Limited,                a joint venture between Charn Issara Development Public Company Limited, I.C.C. International Public Company Limited, and Sahapathanapibul Public Company Limited to develop Thew Talay Estate over 110 rai of beachfront land in Cha Am – Hua Hin into a hub of seaside relaxation with luxury condominium, hotel, residences under the brand Baba Beach Club Hotel & Residences Hua Hin and Prestigious Residential Pool Villa managed by Sri Panwa and Baan Chok Historic Home, a beachfront eatery and intimate event space which was the heritage holiday home of the Chokwatana family. Built in Hua Hin colonial style, it is being renovated to become a unique restaurant, cafe, event spaces by the sea.

ถึงแม้ว่าคุณปลาทูจะทุ่มเทกับการทำงานมาก แต่ก็ยังไม่ลืมให้ความสำคัญกับการใช้เวลาร่วมกับครอบครัวอย่างสมดุล โดยสิ่งนี้เองเป็นมรดกตกทอดจากคุณพ่อผู้เป็นต้นแบบในการใช้ชีวิตของเขา “คุณพ่อเป็นไอดอลของผม ท่านเป็นคนที่ balance การทำงานกับการให้เวลากับครอบครัวได้ดีมาก ท่านสอนผมเรื่องการบริหารจัดการเวลาอย่างมีวินัย ผมมักจะทำตัวเองให้ยุ่งๆ เข้าไว้ เมื่อไหร่ที่มีเวลาว่างเยอะเกินไป ผมจะคิดว่ายังใช้เวลาได้อย่างไม่มีประสิทธิภาพมากพอ ผมแบ่งเวลาง่ายๆ ออกเป็นสามส่วน คือ 1. เวลางาน 2. เวลาสำหรับครอบครัวและเพื่อน 3. เวลาออกกลำงกายดูแลตัวเอง และนอกจากการบริหารเวลาคุณพ่อและคุณแม่ยังคอยสอนและให้แง่คิดเรื่องการทำงานและการใช้ชีวิตกับผม คือถ้าเราได้ทำทุกอย่างอย่างถูกต้องและเต็มที่แล้ว ถึงผลจะออกมาไม่เป็นตามที่คาดหวังไว้ สิ่งที่ทำได้คือการลุกขึ้นมาเริ่มต้นใหม่ มองสถานการณ์สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้น ยอมรับ เรียนรู้และก้าวต่อไป”

Although Khun Platu is fully committed to his work, he never fails to find time for his family – perhaps this is the most important legacy that his father, his role model, has passed on to him. “My dad is my idol. He has achieved the perfect balance between work and family. He’s taught me how to manage my time well. Where I used to try to fill all my time with activities because I thought I wasn’t being efficient enough, now I simply split my time into three buckets: 1.) Work, 2.) Family and friends, and 3.) Exercise and self-care. Aside from time management, my parents have also taught me how to think about living meaningfully. If I have done all I can but some things still do not turn out the way I expected, I just try again. They taught me to take things for what they are, accept them, learn from them, and move on.

นอกจากชีวิตในวันทำงานแล้ว สำหรับช่วงวันหยุดยาว คุณปลาทูชอบที่จะเดินทางไปเที่ยวตามที่ต่างๆ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งสถานที่ที่มีความแปลกใหม่อย่างทริปสุดประทับใจล่าสุดของเขา คือ ทริปตามรอยกอริลลา  (Gorilla Trekking ) ที่ประเทศยูกันดา และรวันดา และทริปวัฒนธรรมที่เอธิโอเปีย ซึ่งครั้งนี้เพื่อนร่วมทางของเขาก็คือคุณแม่และน้องสาว ปลาเข็ม กรัชเพชร อิสสระ “ปีที่แล้วผมมีโอกาสได้ไปรวันดา ยูกันดาเพื่อไป                     ทริปตามรอยกอริลลา ได้สัมผัสธรรมชาติที่ยังอุดมสมบูรณ์และตื่นเต้นไปกับการพบเจอสัตว์ต่างๆอย่างใกล้ชิด เป็นทริปที่ผมอยากไปมานานแล้ว ตั้งแต่เห็นในแมกกาซีนและบล็อกท่องเที่ยว อีกประเทศที่ได้ไปแวะเวียนในทริปนี้คือ เอธิโอเปียซึ่งเป็นประเทศที่นักท่องเที่ยวยังไปเที่ยวไม่มาก ผมได้เห็นถึงความหลากหลายของวัฒนธรรมและบ้านเมืองที่มีความลงตัวอย่างเหลือเชื่อ เอธิโอเปียแบ่งประเทศเป็น 2 ส่วน ส่วนเหนือเป็นพื้นที่ที่มีวัฒนธรรมพื้นเมืองผสมผสานกับวัฒนธรรมตะวันตก ส่วนใต้เป็นพื้นที่ที่เป็นวัฒนธรรมดั้งเดิมแท้จริง ไม่มีการเจือปนของวัฒนธรรมอื่น การเดินทางเข้าถึงจึงมีความยากลำบากเล็กน้อย แต่เป็นประสบการณ์ที่น่าประทับใจมากครับ” เมื่อกล่าวถึงเพื่อนร่วมทางคู่ใจของคุณปลาทู ก็หนีไม่พ้นครอบครัวของเขา ซึ่งแม้ว่าบุคลิกและความชอบส่วนตัวจะแตกต่างกัน แต่ทุกคนกลับเข้ากันได้อย่างลงตัว “ทริปโปรดของครอบครัวของเราคือการไปเล่นสกีหรือสโนว์บอร์ด แม้ว่าช่วงหลังๆ เวลาของเราจะไม่ค่อยตรงกัน แต่ผมก็ยังสามารถหาเวลาไปเที่ยวกันได้ เช่น ทริปขี่ม้าสไตล์คาวบอยที่ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกากับปลาเข็มและคุณพ่อสามคน หรือทริปศึกษาดูงานที่ประเทศอังกฤษกับพี่ปลาวาฬ หรือไปเที่ยวที่ประเทศอินโดนีเซียกับแม่ แล้วแต่ว่าช่วงไหนใครว่างพร้อมใครครับ”

When time permits for him to take longer breaks from work, Khun Platu likes to travel, particularly to new and exotic destinations. His most memorable trip of late was a gorilla trekking trip in Uganda and Rwanda, followed by a cultural excursion to Ethiopia. His travel companions were his mother and sister Plakem, Karatphet Issara. “Last year I had the opportunity to visit Rwanda and Uganda on a gorilla trekking trip. It was incredible to be able to get so close to the animals in their natural habitat, which was still so well preserved. I’d wanted to do this trip for a very long time, having seen it in magazines and travel blogs. We then went on to Ethiopia, which is not so widely visited by tourists yet. It was amazing to see the different cultures coexisting – in the northern part of the country you can see western influences coming through, whereas in the south it’s completely untainted. Getting around was tough, but it made such an impression on me.” When asked who his ideal travel companions are, the answer is inevitably his family. Despite each having their own personality and preferences, they all get along incredibly well. “Our favourite family trip is our annual ski trip. Although our schedules are getting more difficult to align these days, we try really hard to make time for each other. So it could be a horse riding trip in the US with my dad and Plakem, a work trip to the UK with Plawan, or a trip to Indonesia with my mum – whenever anyone is free, really.”

มาถึงเรื่องสุดท้ายที่คุณปลาทูให้ความสำคัญคือเรื่องการดูแลสุขภาพของตัวเองอย่างการออกกำลังกาย “ช่วงนี้ผมอินกับการปั่นจักรยานอินดอร์ การออกไปวิ่งเอ้าท์ดอร์ และการออกกำลังกายแบบกลุ่มครับ” แรงบันดาลใจในการออกกำลังกายของคุณปลาทูคือ พี่ตูน บอดี้แสลม โดยคุณปลาทูได้มีโอกาสไปร่วมวิ่งกับพี่ตูนที่ชายหาดชะอำด้วย “ผมนับถือจิตใจที่ดีของพี่ตูน มาก นอกจากเขาจะช่วยหารายได้ให้กับโรงพยาบาลหลายแห่งแล้ว สิ่งสำคัญที่พี่ตูนได้ทำให้เราตระหนักคือ ความสำคัญของการออกกำลังกาย เมื่อเราเริ่มออกกำลังกาย สุขภาพของเราก็จะดีขึ้น สำหรับผมแม้จะเริ่มออกกำลังกายเป็นกิจวัตรได้ไม่นาน แต่ก็รู้สึกว่าสุขภาพของผมดีขึ้นจริงๆ ร่างกายก็แข็งแรงมากขึ้นกว่าเดิม และรู้สึกสดใสและกระปรี้ประเปร่าอีกด้วย”

And on to another area of his life that is also important, exercise and self-care. “I’m really into indoor cycling, outdoor running, and group exercise right now,” he said. His inspiration none other than is man-of-the-moment Khun Toon Bodyslam, who Khun Platu had the chance to run with on the beach in Cha-Am. “I really admire his spirit. Not only did he do this great thing to raise money for all those hospitals, he also helped to raise awareness on the importance of exercise. When you exercise, you become healthier. I haven’t been exercising for all that long but I can already feel the benefits to my health. I’m stronger, have more energy, and just feel better every day.”

จากการสัมภาษณ์พูดคุยกับคุณปลาทู ทำให้เราสัมผัสได้ถึงความสดใส ร่าเริง และความจริงใจ พร้อมรอยยิ้มที่ดูอบอุ่นทุกครั้งที่พูดถึงครอบครัว ความมุ่งมั่นสู่ความสำเร็จในการทำงานไม่ใช่ข้ออ้างสำหรับการไม่มีเวลาให้กับครอบครัวและตัวเอง คือสิ่งที่เราได้เรียนรู้จากคุณปลาทู ท้ายที่สุดคุณปลาทูได้เล่าถึงความสุขของชีวิตในปัจจุบันว่า “ตอนนี้ชีวิตค่อนข้างลงตัว ด้วยอายุ 35 เป็นช่วงที่โตพอที่จะรู้ว่าตัวเองต้องการอะไรเพื่อเติมเต็มชีวิต ผมมีความสุขกับงานที่ทำ การได้ท่องเที่ยว ได้ใช้ชีวิตอย่างเป็นอิสระ และมีครอบครัวที่ผมรัก”

From our chat with Khun Platu, we can certainly feel his enthusiasm, authenticity, and positive outlook – always accompanied by a genuine smile whenever he talks about his family. Determination to succeed in professional life is not an excuse to neglect one’s family or oneself: this is what we take away from Khun Platu. And he left us with these final words, “I’m in a good place. I’m 35, I think I’m old enough to know what I want from life. I’m happy with my work, and I’m so lucky to get to see so much of the world, live life the way I want, and to have a loving family by my side through it all.”
